In 2011 the United States Federal Trade Commission issued a revised Model Privacy Notice pursuant to the Gramm Leach Bliley Act which requires notice to individuals who provide personal information to dealers in the course of financing or leasing a vehicle. The GLB Act sets standards regarding disclosure of nonpublic personal information to nonaffiliated third parties. Vehicle dealers must provide privacy notices to certain individuals pursuant to this new rule and may also allow for an opt-out by the customer for the dealer to not share certain information with nonaffiliated companies.
